How I Help with Misophonia & Extreme Sound Sensitivity

My misophonia therapy programme, SAFE AROUND SOUND, focuses on reducing the intensity of the rage, panic and disgust you feel when you hear the trigger sounds. While your misophonia may not disappear completely, many of my past clients notice feeling calmer with shorter recovery times following triggers, and a greater confidence that they can manage situations in daily life where they otherwise may have been triggered.  In many cases, the anxiety about even hearing the sound in the first place can reduce too.  This can allow you to go out to restaurants, eat with family, even stoop wearing earphones all the time at home.

In the video below, you will see me interviewing a client who had been experiencing intense rage at her neighbours for the noise they were making.  Her story is powerful and reassuring!

What changes can you expect after working with me?

  • Meal-times feel more comfortable and less like a battle-ground you want to run from

  • Being at home feels more comfortable and relaxing - even without your headphones!

  • You may feel settled after being triggered more quickly - what once ruined a whole evening may pass in minutes

  • Your general feelings of anxiety and "hypervigilance" reduce - so you worry less about the possibility of hearing that noise....

  • Your tolerance in everyday situations may grow - such as being in a classroom, or in the office at lunchtime, or at a restaurant with friends (maybe something you would usually never do!)

  • You may notice improvements in your close personal relationships affected by your misophonia such as the one with your parents, partner/spouse, friends, colleaugues etc

  • You might even think about sleeping in the same bed as your spouse/partner again!

  • You no longer scan every single room for potential noises that might trigger you

  • You no longer need to arrange your entire life around avoiding certain people or places - this is FREEDOM!

  • You stop seeing yourself as "broken, weird, over-sensitive, too dramatic" - instead you recognise that Misophonia was never your fault.

  • You can stay present in conversations for longer, communicate more calmly and feel less anxious about how you will react.

Hypnotherapy for Misophonia online

My programme is not about pretending Misophonia does not exist.
It is about reducing its control over your daily life.

Online therapy for misophonia
  • I do not claim to CURE misophonia - hypnotherapy is not a miracle cure

  • I do not promise that your trigger sounds will disappear completely

  • I do not promise a "Quick-Fix" solution

HOWEVER - CLIENTS WHO COMMIT FULLY OFTEN NOTICE:

  • Feeling calmer and more able to live without fear of hearing the noise

  • Experiencing fewer extreme emotional spikes

  • Vastly improving their relationship with Misophonia

  • Getting out into the world instead of hiding away from it

THIS IS NOT JUST ABOUT LEARNING YET MORE COPING STRATEGIES

IT IS STRUCTURED, FOCUSED, NERVOUS SYSTEM WORK WHICH USES THE POWER OF YOUR SUBCONSCIOUS MIND TO CREATE LONG LASTING CHANGE.

You will be a good fit for my programme if the following apply:

  • You feel extremely distressed and trapped/isolated by your misophonia

  • It is having a very negative impact on your wellbeing and health

  • You have a deep desire to explore the underlying emotions and beliefs that may be contributing to your misophonia

  • You want to start living your life and being with your loved ones again

  • You have tried various coping strategies without success

  • You have an open mind without rigid expectations - DO NOT apply to work with me if you expect a miracle cure without having to work on yourself

If you are ready to explore whether this work is right for you, the next step is a consultation call.

On this call, I will:

  • Ask you some questions about your personal experience

  • Identify what meaningful change would look like for you

  • Assess whether you are likely to benefit from my programme

There is no pressure and no obligation on your part or mine - I do not always agree to work with everyone who contacts me.  If I don't think I can help you, I will let you know.

If you are serious about reducing the hold misophonia has over your life, you can book your consultation below.

SAFE AROUND SOUND

A 5 session programme to help you feel calmer when you hear the noises that send you into a rage/panic

Combining talk therapy with relaxing gentle techniques to help you spend more quality time with your loved ones, living peacefully and feeling more connected - this is what people with misophonia say they miss the most.

In my approach to helping you with Misophonia, I combine three approaches, as explained below.  Firstly we examine the underlying feelings then we work gently with your nervous system to help it feel safe (this is what is engaged when you feel under threat), then we explore how life might look WITHOUT the misophonia!  These three approaches are combined in my signature 5 session programme, "Safe around sound".   My programme is tailored to you - and what you want to achieve.   Each session lasts 60-90 minutes and includes a gentle relaxing recording for you to listen to between and after sessions.

What lies beneath?

We still don't fully understand what causes Misophonia.  In some people it's possible to trace it back to particular experiences especially in childhood.  I offer a compassionate space to look at underlying causes and you may gain important insights which are valuable to help you heal.

Creating Safety within

Whether you are aware of what caused your misophonia, you have learned to react with anger/pain and distress to certain sounds.  I use gentle calming methods to help you respond in a way that feels more helpful, so that you don't feel so overwhelmed.  You might not notice this straight away, it can be subtle.  However with techniques that I will teach you to use, you can feel calmer with practice

Connect with your future self

Have you ever wondered what life might look like without Misophonia?  A large part of our work together is helping you to see yourself differently - so for example how would it feel to have more close, loving connections with parents, friends or partners?  We often spend so much time focusing on how bad the sound makes us feel that we forget to think about what could be different.  How would you feel if you could eat with your family, go to the cinema, sleep in the same bed as your partner, or spend more time with your children?
